Why do we need a good friendship? I am not talking about casual acquaintances who are there for the gossip or know you just so they can say they “know you”. I am talking about a good ,real friendship a true friendship. What does the Bible say about all this?
“Iron shapes iron,
So one man sharpens another ”
Constructive criticism can be a precious link between friends. Iron rubbed against iron shapes and sharpens it. In the same way discussion and soul-searching interaction between friends brings obvious changes.
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
– Proverbs 17:17-
A friend will love at all times no matter what the circumstances are. A real friend will stick around even when the storm is rough .
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
– Proverbs 27:6
This is the type of a friend who we need, the one who is not out to say flattering things to us but to point out when we are wrong. This is so important! Wouldn’t you want someone who cares for you that much and loves you unconditionally?Yep, that is it! That is a good friend!
How to be a good friend?
Well in this area I had a really hard time because I am naturally very selfish .
I know there are some of you who are “people pleasers” and you are having a hard time because you are trying to make everyone happy. You get too busy because you just can’t say NO to others.
You guys definitely should just take it easy and focus on more quality time with your family and just quit trying to make everyone happy!
What about people like me?
We like to say : “I just don’t have enough time”
I don’t have time to worry about others. It is too yucky and I already have enough on my own.Honestly making an effort to be a good friend takes a whole lot, but because you give love it feels so right!Caring for others and being kind, being there for someone when there is no one else takes effort and you have to seek out the opportunity. All you have to do is open your eyes and see what people need, what your friends need. We are here to “LOVE”one another, to be there for each other, to make time when it’s needed. Be in the moment and laugh or cry together. Whatever it is put your selfish ways to the side and be there and show up!
Be loyal,be a good friend even during the yucky parts!
Acknowledge and recognize, give them your heart and attention. Let them know they are important.
Appreciate your friends. Everyone wants to be appreciated even You. So why wouldn’t we do this for others?Family and friends all need to know they are important.
A real and true friendship is hard to find. Cherish the people around you!
See -John 15:13-
” Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
When we act according to the scripture we are glorifying God. That is what life is all about!Honoring Him in your relationships.Just be thankful for his mercy and kindness toward all of us.
