We all go through difficult times. Some of us go through bigger things than others.
There is so much hurt in our world, it is hard not to focus on only bad things.Today I would love to shed some light on 5 important things you should focus on when you are going through rough times. I pray it will help you and guide you in the right direction and that through it all you will find hope and peace through Jesus.
“God’s Spirit, who is in you is greater than the devil, who is in the world.” – 1 JN 4:4
Satan may be powerful, but we need to remember who is in control. Satan doesn’t want us to know God still has authority over him. He wants us to believe he is independent from God. Our hard times may be caused by evil or they may just be a test but all we need to know God is still in control of it all. After all, if we know He is the ruler over this universe He must know what we need and when we need it. When we know He is in control and He is GOOD and mighty, it changes our outlook forever and we will praise Him in the middle of the storm. Even though it causes us hardship, it is only temporary. His love is forever and because we know this, we need to fix our eyes upon Him, on His GOODNESS and His LOVE. Satan’s tricks will fade away because our attention is no longer focused on the tricks but on God.
2.Be thankful for the hard times because it will bring you closer to God!
In our lives there can be different reasons why God allows pain and heartache. Sometimes the answer is clear and it becomes a testimony. Other times we are unable to see through it all, it is all behind the scenes. But our circumstances can create a closer relationship with Him.
Look at Paul’s life and ministry, he had a very fruitful journey. Chosen as an apostle by Jesus he healed people, traveled all over the world, and wrote much of the New Testament. But at times he may have been a little prideful.
“To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.” – 2Co 12:7
We don’t know the nature of the thorn, but we know the purpose, to keep him humble. We also know it came from Satan.
“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me. ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, and in difficulties.
For when I am week, then I am strong.”
– 2 Co 12:8-10
The truth is Satan and his tricks are simply there to bring us closer to God, he becomes a tool.
3.Be thankful for the storm! It will strengthen your faith.
I know…you are probably thinking “What ?!?!?”
Believe me I know, we are going through a hard time right now but this time I have a very different outlook on our situation. A much better outlook I would say.
Look at Job’s life.
The trouble the Lord allowed Satan to bring on him.-Job 42:11
God gave Satan permission to test Job. We
may not understand the reason for the test but we know it’s source. Satan has no power except what God allows him to have. Even when Satan appears to win he loses. So be encouraged today:
Satan’s attack will strengthen your faith, refine it and take it to greater heights.
4.Be thankful for the wake up call.
Sometimes Satan’s attack can be the wake up call we need. When we refuse to give up our sin and repent of it, it takes up our entire life and we are out of God’s will. We can’t receive protection when we are living wrong.
“Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyed and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.” – 1Co 5:5
Wow…do you hear that? So powerful and such a WAKE-UP call!
“19 holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. 20 Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.” – 1Tim 1:19-20
Some people will hit rock bottom and some people will never realize the mercy we are offered when we seek the Father for forgiveness and healing. He doesn’t want us to live in misery. However, for some of us it takes more misery to get the point than for others. You have the free will to choose Him, as a result there will be no more suffering, darkness and misery.
5. Some triumphs are proof that you have an important role to play in the plan of God.
That is why Satan is trying so hard to defeat you.
31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers”
The bigger the storm is the more endurance needed to fight it and we will be rewarded accordingly.
It will also perfectly define your relationship with Christ. View this hard time as a sign of respect because Satan is definitely intimidated by God and His power within you!
A lot of times our bad situations and how we handle those situations will reach out to others and serve as a purposeful testimony. This world needs living testimonies! Your difficulties can turn into encouragement to others who are struggling. God loves you and good things will come out of the troubles that you are going through right now.
