I see different posts daily on this subject, and I am exhausted of people trying to tell me if I am extrovert or introvert! Why do we have to have these labels on us? Why do I need someone to tell me what my personality type I am? I mean our personalities are so different from each other, since God intended it that way. We honestly would have a hard time only use two groups to describe our personality and nature. Especially our sinful nature!
So here is the definition of introvert:
“Introvert comes from Latin intro-, “inward,” and vert, “turning.” It describes a person who tends to turn inward mentally. Introverts sometimes avoid large groups of people, feeling more energized by time alone. The opposite of an introvert is an extrovert, who finds energy in interactions with others. Introvert can also be a verb, meaning literally to “fold inward,” or to “turn inward.” – (psychology) A person who tends to shrink from social contacts and to become preoccupied with their own thoughts.”
Extrovert is a person predominantly concerned with external things or objective considerations, an outgoing, overtly expressive person. Sociable person, socializer, life of the party.
So now that we looked at the definitions, i just wonder if you are thinking the same thing like I do…
Yes, I am defiantly an extrovert, but there is a lot of things I adopted during my lifetime that is introvert, so it is not that simple after all. I love to socialize and love going to places and spend time well. But I also love my me time, my quiet time.
Also, I think in general when we find the right places and people who we click with we become social butterflies. Think about it, you are an introvert and you are pretty shy, but you are very passionate about something, so much so that you actually will publicly share about your passion and interact with other like-minded people.
Who are you now?
An introvert with extrovert characteristics? Confused yet?
Don’t get me wrong, there is these definitions for a reason, but that doesn’t define who we are, not exactly anyway. Some people get offended by some not supporting their labels. They use those labels to explain themselves and who they really are and their struggles and successes that are unique to those that share the same labels. They find comfort in these groups. Also it makes them feel special to be something out of the “ordinary” .
What defines me is who I am now in Christ, my personality is no longer introvert or extrovert it becomes His and it is no longer focuses on me, it will focus on Him.
New King James Version (NKJV)
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
So after all, the story is not going to be about us anymore, it is going to be about His grace and love that delivered us from our self-centered ways.
