I hope you never have to deal with issues like depression in your young life, and I pray if you ever do you will find your way out of it through Christ.

How does depression happen?

When you start feeling down and everything you do is difficult because you feel hurt.

When everything seem to go south and you just cannot seem to find your way out of it,you are feeling tiered all the time and sluggish, it might be a bit of depression you are battling with.

Depression can make you feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and you have to carry it all alone and you just can’t do it anymore because you are exhausted spiritually, mentally and physically. You are burned out and you just don’t have the answer to anything.Darkness takes over your life and everything is gloomy.

So how can you find your way back to the light?

Step1. Get to the root of the cause

Psalm 143:3 New American Standard Bible

“3 For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead.”

Ok, so stop for a minute and see what could cause you these feelings.Sometimes there  is no reason at all, and that could be a sign of spiritual warfare.This battle goes on all the time and could affect your personality and mood.

Step 2. See what the depression is doing to you

“4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
My heart is appalled within me.” – Psalm 143:4

Your response becomes hopeless.You begin to believe that there is no way out of this darkness,like its vicious circle that never ends.

Step 3. What makes you feel good? Recognize it.

“5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all Your doings;
I muse on the work of Your hands.” – Psalm 143:5

Think about the good things that God has done for you. Honestly it is hard to see further than our depression sometimes, but believe me when I say this there is someone out there who loves you. That might not be the person you want to be loved by, but don’t ever believe  no one loves you! Don’t believe that there is nothing good in your life! There is! Your family, your friend(s),think about the good times you have had. Think about that warm feeling you had during your happiest moments. Think about the good things.

Step 4. Thank God anyway

“6 I stretch out my hands to You;
My soul longs for You, as a parched land.” – Psalm 143:6

You see, sometimes all these things are happening to us so we can reach out to Jesus and find Him in the middle of the storm. I know it sounds crazy to you, but if you just say a prayer to Him and ask Him to fill you up and help you get through  things, He will make it happen.Thank Him for the storm, because you find Him in the midst of it all.

Step 5. Ask God to help you

“7 Answer me quickly, O Lord, my spirit fails;
Do not hide Your face from me,
Or I will become like those who go down to the pit.”-Psalm 143:7

When you are so out of breath and you feel like there is nothing to hold on to, and you are sliding down on this slippery slop, you are loosing control. Ask God to catch you when you are falling into the deep. He will send you the Holy Spirit to comfort you, to care for you and strengthen you so you can hold on to Him while things turn around for you.

Step 6. Listen to Him

“8 Let me hear Your loving kindness in the morning;
For I trust in You;
Teach me the way in which I should walk;
For to You I lift up my soul.” – Psalm 143:8

At this point you already gave it all to Him, so you must believe in your heart that God will pull you through. This is where the real work begins. You have to trust that He knows what’s  best for you, and sometimes the best is to let go of things that are holding you down and making you feel so terrible about yourself. You must ask Jesus to guid you  and give you direction every step of the way.

Step 7. Pray HARD

“9 Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies;
I take refuge in You.” – Psalm 143:9

You can ask God for help and He will protect you. But you must keep your eyes on Him and stop amplifying your problems.

Step 8. Ask God to guid you and make wise decisions

” 10 Teach me to do Your will,
For You are my God;
Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” – Psalm 143:10

Our growth will never end so we constantly need to ask God to teach us and keep us grounded.So many times we get caught up in our problems and we focus on that, instead of seeking God for guidance.

Step 9. Look forward to serve Him

“11 Lord, let me live
so people will praise you.
In your goodness
save me from my troubles.” – Psalm 143:11

So now you can really concentrate on God to use you and your troubles to reach out to others and share the Gospel. Your purpose becomes so simple, and everything becomes clear, you were made to have this relationship with Him and receive His love so you can share who He is and what He has done for you, and what he is able to do for others.

Step 10. Worship

Are you thankful He is able to help you?

You see, not only to help you but through your testimony help others. We were created to  love one an other and rely on Him and defeat our enemies.Worship Him in everything you do and your outlook will change shortly after.

I pray this 10 steps will help you defeat these demons and let Jesus step in and love you like you always longed to be loved.
